David’s Version of New Orleans
Katie sleeps any time she steps into a car. New Orleans was
awesome, but would have sucked if we didn’t have legs, because we walked like
ten miles. The ghost tour was really good and the only time we actually learned
something. Next time we’re in New Orleans we’ll do an actual historical tour,
though ghost stories are probably more interesting. Katie is driving right now
and I’m terrified. We just filled up in Louisiana for $3.55, thinking that
Texas gas would cost more…$3.37 is what we found in Texas…bummer. At least the
state is huge, so we’ll be able to fill up again here. Back to N.O.,
Preservation Hall was the greatest ever…totally worth $15 a piece for a thirty
minute set; but I would never pay that again for such a short show. It felt
more like visiting a brothel than a Jazz club (not that I would know)--$15 for
30 minutes. I hope brothels charge more than that though. I wonder what the
musicians think of it, never having enough time to make a connection with the
audience, an audience who probably knows nothing about Jazz. The free concert
at the old U.S. mint was really cool too, I’d never seen Ukelele jazz before.
Houston here we come.
